New Adventures

A couple of months ago a couple of friends were sitting around my kitchen table and we started talking about "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Ernest Hemingway. Our impassioned discussion got us to thinking about how fun it would be to start a book club! Many moons later we have finally gotten around to doing just that! Tonight is the first meeting of our very own book club! We will begin with a real duzy, "The Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri. T.S. Eliot said, "Dante and Shakespeare divide the world between them. There is no third." I vaguely remember reading this esteemed poem in High School (thank you Mr. Patton) but I'm looking forward to stimulating discussion (in Russian) to help me delve deeper into the meaning and ideas presented by Dante in his world renown poetry.
Wish us luck!!

p.s. any suggestions for other good books to read and discuss?

Kristen

You are such an ambitious woman, my friend! If I did a book club in a foreign language, it would have to be titles such as "Hop on Pop" or "Green Eggs and Ham". :) Hope this propels you forward greatly in your language acquisition and relational networks. Praying for you guys...miss you lots.

You are doing this reading in Russian? Then I suggest The Brothers Karamazov, naturally! Not only for the language, but you may recognize some cultural similarities as well.

I'm not reading in Russian, we are just discussing in Russian what we have read. Sorry for any confusion. Brothers Karamazov is an excellent suggestion, on the top of our list! THANKS!

Hi Kristen, how's your book discussion group going? Perhaps you guys would like to put "The Scarlet Letter" on your list, or Solzhenitzn's "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" Hope you and Garrett are well. - Joel

Wishing you all the best in your study. I would suggest starting with a book on baby names. Just reading the comments makes me feel unlearned. God's blessings to you, Bill.
